He Knows My Name, and I Know His

THe Names of God Banner scaled

Morning, ladies! Before I get into my post can I just pause and talk about naming pets for a second? Because honestly – I don’t know why naming our puppy felt like naming a royal baby, but the pressure was real. I thought it would be a sweet, fun, “name-her-over-a-cup-of-tea” kind of moment. Nope. It turned into a whole process. Every name I came up with sounded either too fluffy, too bossy, too boring etc…

And then my daughter, in all her wisdom, said, “Mommy, you have to think nicely. She’s going to be a special puppy, so she needs a special name.” And of course, she was right – because this little dog? Oh, she’s something else.

After weeks of indecision and name rejections, we finally landed on Savannah. And let me tell you, she lives up to it. She’s brave, wild, curious, and full of opinions – especially when it comes to barking at the wind. I don’t know if it’s the name or the breed, but this little girl thinks she owns the boat and the sea. She howls at waves like they personally offended her. But there’s something about her that feels free and bold. Savannah means “open field,” and that just fits her – this little explorer growing up on the ocean, untamed and full of life.

And funny enough, it got me thinking…

Naming matters.

There’s something sacred in naming. Something powerful. Something intentional. It’s not just about what sounds good – it’s about what means something. Names carry identity. They speak purpose. And when we name something – or someone – we’re saying, This is who you are. This is what you’re made for.

That’s why I love diving into the names of God.

Because, these names? They aren’t just beautiful or poetic. They’re personal. They tell us who our Father really is – who He wants us to know Him as. And when life feels wild or heavy or just plain confusing, being able to call on Him by name is like finding solid ground in the middle of a storm.

So this morning – whether you’re curled up in a warm home, tucked in a tiny cabin, or rocking gently on the waves like I am – take a deep breath. Wrap yourself in a blanket. Sip something hot and comforting. And let’s talk about the names of the One who knows your name. The One who formed you. The One who calls you out of hiding and into hope.

Because just like little Savannah, eagerly learning to recognise my voice and respond when I call, we too are in a journey of learning – of attuning our hearts to the voice that matters most. The gentle whisper of the One who formed us calls us beyond distractions, beyond doubts, beyond the noise of the world. And when we learn to respond – not just with our lips, but with our lives – we step into the fullness of His purpose, guided by the One who knows us by name.

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.”

– Isaiah 43:1

Every day, I’m reminded of the power that’s released when a name is spoken. And the greatest, most life-altering names we can speak are the names of Yahweh – our God. There is so much authority, peace, healing, and redemption in the name of Jesus. Not only because of the blood He shed, but because of who He is – Savior, King, Redeemer, Shepherd, Friend. His name is not just a title. It’s the power that turns dead ends into beginnings, battles into victories, and sinners into daughters.

Throughout Scripture, when God calls someone by name, it marks a divine shift in their destiny. Abram became Abraham. Sarai became Sarah. Jacob became Israel. Saul became Paul. Each name carried a new identity, a new calling – something greater than what they were before.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
—2 Corinthians 5:17

And just like them, we too grow into the name He speaks over us. We are warriors. Intercessors. Nurturers. Builders. Daughters. The name of Jesus is our banner, our authority, our transformation.

When we call upon His name, we invoke all that He embodies – peace in chaos, healing in brokenness, strength in weakness. His name doesn’t just represent Him; it releases Him into our moments.

So many times, as women, we search for authority in places that cannot truly change things – titles, roles, affirmation from others. However, the only name that shifts the atmosphere is Jesus. The only authority that breaks chains and heals hearts is the name of our Saviour, our Provider, our Deliverer.

There’s a saying: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result.” But with Jesus? Even if we’ve walked the same broken path a hundred times, the result can still be CHANGE.

That’s grace.
That’s mercy.
That’s transformation.

Because when we call on Him – we do not stay the same.

We are made new.

“Behold, I am making all things new.”
– Revelation 21:5

So let’s lean in and discover more about who our God truly is, through the power of His names. These are not just titles; they carry the authority to shift our circumstances and speak life into our darkest moments. When we call on our Father in Heaven, we aren’t just whispering into the wind – we are calling on the Creator, the Sustainer, the One who is everything we need. Let’s explore who He says He is… and what that means for us today.

When we call on our Father in Heaven – Who are we calling On:

1. Yahweh (יהוה) – “I AM”

Exodus 3:14 – “God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’ And He said, ‘Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent me to you.'”

Significance: Yahweh is the covenant name of God, revealing His eternal, self-existent nature. He is unchanging, sovereign, and ever-present. When we call upon Yahweh, we declare that He is the foundation of our faith – the One who was, who is, and who will always be.

Our Authority: As warriors, we stand firm in the knowledge that Yahweh is our source. He is not dependent on circumstances or human limitations. Calling on His name reminds us that we serve a God who is constant, faithful, and unshaken.

Our Truth: We don’t build our identity on shifting sands. Yahweh is the I AM, the One who never wavers, never weakens, and never walks away. When we call on Yahweh, we plant our feet in unshakable truth. He is  –  always has been, always will be. So we rise, not in who we are, but in who He is.

2. Elohim (אֱלֹהִים) – “Creator, Mighty God”

Genesis 1:1 – “In the beginning, God (Elohim) created the heavens and the earth.”

Significance: Elohim is the name that speaks of God’s power and majesty as the Creator. He formed the universe, set the stars in place, and breathed life into humanity.

Our Authority: When we call on Elohim, we acknowledge that the same God who created the heavens and the earth is the One who shapes our destiny. We are not powerless – we are created in His image, equipped with divine strength.

Our Truth: Elohim crafted the galaxies  –  and still, He formed you. Every part of you was created by the hands of power and purpose. You are not a mistake. You are not fragile. You are designed by the God of might. That truth silences every lie that says you’re not enough.

3. El Shaddai (אֵל שַׁדַּי) – “God Almighty”

Genesis 17:1 – “When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, ‘I am El Shaddai; walk before me faithfully and be blameless.'”

Significance: El Shaddai speaks of God’s sufficiency and overwhelming power. He is the Almighty, the One who nourishes, sustains, and protects.

Our Authority: As warriors, we do not fight alone. El Shaddai is our strength, our refuge, and our sustainer. Calling on His name reminds us that we are upheld by His might.

Our Truth: When our strength is gone, El Shaddai carries us. He is the might behind our mission and the sustainer of our souls. We are not self-made  –  we are God-held.

4. Adonai (אֲדֹנָי) – “Lord, Master”

Psalm 8:1 – “O Lord (Adonai), our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth!”

Significance: Adonai signifies God’s lordship and authority. He is not just a distant deity – He is our personal Lord, the One who leads and governs our lives.

Our Authority: When we call on Adonai, we surrender to His leadership. As warriors, we fight under His command, knowing that victory belongs to Him.

Our Truth: Surrender is not weakness; it is our strategy. We serve Adonai with loyalty and purpose, knowing our victory comes under His rule. We bow only to One  –  and under His authority, we rise.

5. Yahweh Jireh (יהוה יִרְאֶה) – “The Lord Will Provide”

Genesis 22:14 – “So Abraham called that place ‘The Lord Will Provide’ (Yahweh Jireh). And to this day it is said, ‘On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.'”

Significance: Yahweh Jireh reveals God’s provision. He sees our needs and provides in ways beyond our understanding.

Our Authority: As warriors, we do not lack. Calling on Yahweh Jireh reminds us that God supplies every need – whether strength, wisdom, or resources.

Our Truth: Provision is not a maybe  –  it’s a name. When we walk into battle empty, He fills. When the cupboard is bare, when the soul feels spent, Yahweh Jireh is already moving.

6. Yahweh Rapha (יהוה רָפָא) – “The Lord Who Heals”

Exodus 15:26 – “For I am the Lord (Yahweh Rapha) who heals you.”

Significance: Yahweh Rapha is the name that declares God’s healing power – physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Our Authority: We carry the authority to speak healing over our lives and others. Calling on Yahweh Rapha is a declaration that brokenness does not have the final word.

Our Truth: Every scar, every broken place  –  Yahweh Rapha has seen it and called it into restoration. We are not too shattered. We are not too late. Healing is our inheritance.

7. Yahweh Nissi (יהוה נִסִּי) – “The Lord My Banner”

Exodus 17:15 – “Moses built an altar and called it ‘The Lord is my Banner’ (Yahweh Nissi).”

Significance: Yahweh Nissi signifies victory. He goes before us in battle, covering us with His protection.

Our Authority: As warriors, we fight under His banner. Calling on Yahweh Nissi reminds us that we are not defeated – we are victorious in Him.

Our Truth: We fight under the flag of victory. The enemy may rage, but our banner never drops. Yahweh Nissi is our standard in every storm, the reason we fight, and the reason we win.

8. Yahweh Shalom (יהוה שָׁלוֹם) – “The Lord is Peace”

Judges 6:24 – “So Gideon built an altar to the Lord there and called it ‘The Lord is Peace’ (Yahweh Shalom).”

Significance: Yahweh Shalom is the name that brings divine peace. His presence calms storms and restores wholeness.

Our Authority: Calling on Yahweh Shalom is a weapon against fear and anxiety. We stand firm, knowing that His peace guards our hearts.

Our Truth: We carry calm into chaos. Our steps echo with peace that surpasses understanding. Fear flees when Yahweh Shalom stands guard.

9. Yahweh Tsidkenu (יהוה צִדְקֵנוּ) – “The Lord Our Righteousness”

Jeremiah 23:6 – “This is the name by which He will be called: ‘The Lord Our Righteousness’ (Yahweh Tsidkenu).”

Significance: Yahweh Tsidkenu declares that righteousness is found in Him alone.

Our Authority: We do not fight in our own strength – we stand in His righteousness. Calling on Yahweh Tsidkenu reminds us that we are covered by His grace.

Our Truth: Guilt and shame are not our garments. We are robed in righteousness not our own. We fight covered, clean, and called.

10. Yahweh Sabaoth (יהוה צְבָאוֹת) – “The Lord of Hosts”

Psalm 46:7 – “The Lord of Hosts (Yahweh Sabaoth) is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.”

Significance: Yahweh Sabaoth is the name that reveals God’s command over heavenly armies.

Our Authority: As warriors, we do not fight alone. Calling on Yahweh Sabaoth reminds us that heaven fights on our behalf.

Our Truth: We do not stand alone. There is a host behind us  –  an unseen army. When we whisper prayers, heaven moves. Yahweh Sabaoth fights for us.

11. Yahweh Rohi (יהוה רֹעִי) – “The Lord My Shepherd”

Psalm 23:1 – “The Lord is my Shepherd (Yahweh Rohi); I shall not want.”

Significance: Yahweh Rohi speaks of God’s guidance and care.

Our Authority: Calling on Yahweh Rohi reminds us that we are never lost – He leads us in every battle.

Our Truth: We are never lost. Even in the valley, Yahweh Rohi knows every step. We follow His voice  –  and in His path, we find rest and power.

12. Yahweh Shammah (יהוה שָׁמָּה) – “The Lord is There”

Ezekiel 48:35 – “The name of the city from that time on will be: ‘The Lord is There’ (Yahweh Shammah).”

Significance: Yahweh Shammah declares God’s presence.

Our Authority: We are never abandoned. Calling on Yahweh Shammah reminds us that He is always with us, in every fight, in every moment.

Our Truth: Loneliness may shout, but Yahweh Shammah whispers louder  –  I am with you. In every moment of despair, in every sleepless night, in every battlefield  –  He is there.

We hold these names close because they anchor us when the waves rise and steady us when everything feels uncertain. Knowing God’s names isn’t just about theology – it’s about intimacy. Each name reveals a facet of His character and a promise we can cling to. When we remember He is Jehovah Jireh, we stop fearing lack. When we call Him El Roi, we stop feeling unseen. When we whisper Abba, we are reminded we are daughters, not orphans. His names remind us who He is – and in turn, they remind us who we are in Him. That’s why we learn them, declare them, and keep them tucked into the deep places of our hearts.

It Is Only Because of Him

When my marriage ended, I felt a kind of emptiness I had never known before. The weight of loss pressed in – shadows of regret, echoes of broken promises, and the pain of a future that no longer existed the way I had once envisioned.

There were nights when the sorrow felt unbearable, where the silence carried disappointment, and where the ache of what had been felt louder than the hope of what could be. In those moments, I reached for something – anything – that could steady me.

But I learned: I am nothing. There is nothing that can steady me within me –

  • I hold no power to fix,
  • No strength to rebuild,
  • No righteousness to claim.

Not because of me. But because of Him.

“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in His love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”

—Zephaniah 3:17

And yet, in the middle of my grief, I spoke the name of Jesus.

I whispered His name in my brokenness, called upon Him when my heart had no words left. And every time, His presence broke through.

His name didn’t erase the loss, but it filled the emptiness. His presence didn’t rewrite the past, but it redeemed my future. His grace didn’t undo the pain, but it carried me through.

Not because of me. But because of Him.

I stand today not because I am strong, but because He is my strength. I rise not because I am worthy, but because He calls me worthy. I walk forward not because I have overcome, but because He has already won.

“Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.” – 1 Corinthians 1:31

So, warrior woman – rise, but rise knowing that you rise only because He lifts you. Call upon His name. Walk boldly in His strength. Pray fiercely in His authority. Love radically in His mercy.

Because it is not about you. It is all about Him.

And when a daughter of God calls on the name of Jesus – the heavens shake, darkness flees, and victory is sealed.

Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You today in humility, knowing that apart from You, we are nothing. Every battle we face, every storm we endure, every sorrow we carry – we cannot overcome in our own strength. But in Your name, we find victory.
Jesus, You are our refuge, our peace, our hope in the midst of darkness. You are our righteousness, our healer, our provider, and our warrior. You alone make us worthy, and it is only by Your grace that we stand.

Lord, let every woman reading this be reminded that she does not fight alone. She does not walk in her own strength. She does not bear the weight of life on her own shoulders. Because You are her strength. You are her protector. You are the one who lifts her head and calls her worthy.

God, teach us to surrender fully to You. Strip us of pride, of self-reliance, of the illusion that we are enough on our own. Because without You, we are nothing. But in You, we lack nothing. Fill us with boldness, courage, and unwavering faith. Remind us that when we call upon Your name, heaven moves, chains break, and strongholds crumble.
Jesus, we declare today that we are not our past, not our failures, not our fears. We are Yours – redeemed, restored, empowered, and victorious. May Your name be our battle cry. May Your truth be our foundation. May Your presence be our strength.

And may we never forget that it is not about us. It is all about You. In the powerful, undefeated, life-changing name of Jesus, Amen.
