The Bible says in James 1:22-25, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.”

Being obedient to Christ requires sacrifice and faith. It means trusting that God has a plan for your life and that His love will carry you through difficult times. As the author Elizabeth Elliot once said, “The will of God is not something you add to your life. It’s a course you choose. You either line yourself up with the Son of God… or you capitulate to the principle which governs the rest of the world.”

In Matthew 16:24-25, Jesus says, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.” This means that following Christ requires a willingness to let go of our own desires and ambitions and submit ourselves to God’s will. Letting go sometimes of the comforts of everyday life. P

Obedience to God also requires us to continually renew our minds and align our thoughts with His. In Romans 12:2, Paul writes, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete. You are judging by appearances. If anyone is confident that they belong to Christ, they should consider again that we belong to Christ just as much as they do.

~ 2 Corinthians 10:3-7

As we strive to be obedient to God, we must remember that it is a journey and not a destination. We will make mistakes along the way, but through God’s grace and mercy, we can find the strength to continue the race. In her book “Breaking Free,” author Beth Moore writes, “God wants to take us from where we are to where He wants us to be. He wants us to be people who obey Him not out of a sense of duty, but out of a heart of love.”

The guiding force of your life is no longer your flesh, which comes with trials and temptations that you cannot overcome. Your guiding force is now the Spirit of God that leads you with weapons of warfare given to you by the Holy Spirit. Weapons that will aid you in pulling down strongholds, overcoming the attack from a very real enemy who seeks to destroy you.

In conclusion, obedience to God is essential to our spiritual growth. It requires sacrifice, faith, and a willingness to let go of our own desires and ambitions. Through obedience, we can experience the blessings that come from following God’s will and draw closer to Him. As we continue on our journey of faith, may we always strive to be obedient to God’s teachings and trust in His unfailing love.

Through my walk with God I have discovered a new world, a life that gives me mercy, that shows me grace. It’s not a secret I have to keep to myself, it’s a love story that started at the birth of Jesus and ended at the cross. It’s a banner that needs to be on display. As my DNA has changed, so has yours, He is your life source. Christ’s air flows through your lungs, His love is your’s, you just need to accept it. Take the step into the arms of a Father that has always been waiting for you!
