Introduction to the Prophets
The Prophets are some of the most important figures in the Bible. They were special messengers God chose to deliver His messages to the people. These messages included warnings, advice, comfort, and promises for the future.
Who Were the Prophets? The Prophets were men and women who listened to God and shared His words with others. Some of the well-known prophets include Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel. They lived during different times and faced many challenges, but they all had one thing in common: they were dedicated to sharing God’s message.
What Did They Do?
- Warning: The Prophets often warned people when they were doing wrong and needed to change their ways.
- “Cry aloud; do not hold back; lift up your voice like a trumpet; declare to my people their transgression, to the house of Jacob their sins” (Isaiah 58:1).
- Hope: They gave hope by telling people about God’s plans for a better future.
- “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11).
- Guidance: The Prophets provided guidance on how to live according to God’s will.
- “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8).

- Jeremiah: Called the “weeping prophet” because of his heartfelt laments and his warnings about the fall of Jerusalem.
- “Oh that my head were waters, and my eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!” (Jeremiah 9:1).

Following God’s command, Ezekiel spoke not his own words but those filled with God’s life-giving power: “God says to these bones, I will breathe into you, and you will live” (Ezekiel 37:5).
The Breath of Life As Ezekiel spoke, God’s breath moved, connecting bones, growing muscles, and covering them with flesh until they stood as a vast, revived army, a testament to God’s life-giving Spirit. God declared, “I will put my Spirit in you, and you will live” (Ezekiel 37:14).
The Voice of the Prophets From Isaiah’s inspiring visions to Jeremiah’s heartfelt laments, God’s words brought both piercing truth and healing. God assures us in Jeremiah, “I have plans for your good, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope”.
