The LORD is close to the broken hearted

5 1

The LORD is close to the brokenhearted. His presence is not distant, not aloof. It’s an intimate whisper, a hand reaching through the darkness. The Brokenhearted: those who carry shards of shattered dreams, who ache with loss, who bear the weight of unspoken sorrows. You are not alone. His eyes see your hidden wounds, His heart feels your silent cries. When you stumble, He steadies you.

The Crushed in Spirit: those whose souls feel like fragile petals trampled by life’s storms. When despair threatens to engulf, when hope wavers, He draws near. His touch is gentle, yet it carries resurrection power. He lifts your head, aligning your gaze with eternity. The Healing Wings: imagine them—feathers soft as dawn, strong as mountains. They wrap around you, a cocoon of solace. Here, you find refuge. Here, your brokenness meets His wholeness. When grief threatens to drown you, rest in His wingspan.

In Psalm 34:18, we find this declaration of Hope: “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted.”

  1. God’s Nearness:
    • When the psalmist says that the LORD is “close,” it signifies God’s immediate presence with those who are hurting.
    • God isn’t distant or aloof; He draws near to those who are brokenhearted.
  2. Understanding Brokenness:
    • The “brokenhearted” refers to those who are overwhelmed with grief, pain, or despair. It includes anyone experiencing emotional anguish or loss.
    • God doesn’t shy away from our brokenness; instead, He leans in closer.
  3. Compassion and Empathy:
    • God’s closeness to the brokenhearted reveals His compassion. He understands our feelings, our tears, and our struggles.
    • Jesus Himself experienced deep sorrow and grief during His earthly life, making Him a compassionate High Priest (Hebrews 4:15).
  4. Divine Comfort and Healing:
    • God’s nearness isn’t passive; it’s active comfort. He binds up wounds, soothes pain, and brings healing.
    • When we feel shattered, God’s presence becomes a refuge—a safe place to pour out our hearts.
  5. A Promise of Deliverance:
    • The psalmist continues: “He saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
    • God doesn’t merely sympathize; He rescues. His salvation extends to our brokenness, lifting us from despair.
  6. Personal Application:
    • If you’re feeling brokenhearted, know that God is right there with you. You’re not alone.
    • His closeness isn’t conditional—it’s available to all who seek Him.

When life’s storms leave us shattered, the LORD draws near. His love enfolds us, His presence comforts us, and His healing touch restores our wounded hearts. The Savior: His name echoes through ages. Jesus, who wept at Lazarus’s tomb, who felt the sting of death’s separation. He knows your pain intimately. When your heart shatters, He collects every fragment. When your spirit crumbles, He rebuilds.

The Promise: it stands unwavering. He saves. Not with empty platitudes, but with nail-scarred hands. He redeems your brokenness, turning it into a mosaic of grace. When darkness whispers lies, cling to His promise: You are not forsaken.

So, dear one, rest. In the quietude of night, when tears stain your pillow, know that the One who wept for humanity weeps with you. His love is your balm, His arms your sanctuary.
