The Treasure Within Me

2 Corinthians 47

Another day behind us, I watch the horizon as the sun starts its slow descent behind the dunes in the distance. My mind always goes back to all that God has done on this day and I can just be thankful, that He chose me first.

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.

– 2 Corinthians 4:7

If you look at yourself, you might miss it, we are not much to look at. We have been surrounded by troubles and beaten and battered by the hurts of this life. In spite of our choices and our mistakes, we carry within us this precious Message in unadorned clay pots of our ordinary lives, the glory that is Jesus.

“I know of nothing that speaks louder for Christ and Christianity than to see a man or woman giving up what they call their rights for others, and ‘in honor preferring one another.”

– D.L. Moody

We carry this message in these fragile bodies, sometimes weak to stand, so that no one can ever be confused by God’s incomparable power within us. We have been spiritually terrorized, but God hasn’t left our side; we’ve been thrown down, but we haven’t broken. What they did to Jesus, they will do to us—trial and torture, mockery and murder; what Jesus did among them, he does in us—he lives!

Our lives are at constant risk for Jesus’ sake, which makes Jesus’ life all the more evident within us. While we’re going through the worst of it, we know that we take Him with us inside this clay jar not worthy of much but carrying the best of them.

Dear Lord, thank you that I may know in my unworthy state, You chose my clay jar to show yourself to the world I find myself in. Enable me to be the best ambassador for Your kingdom. May the people who know me love You more more because of what they see of You in me. Amen
