Anchored in the Light

Morning Girls, here I sit on the deck once again, wrapped in the hush of the morning. The horizon glows faintly as the first hints of sunlight stretch across the sky. Below deck, Andre is still deep in sleep, his snores rising softly through the companionway. The power is low, and the instruments beeped their warning when I first stood up. Now, everything is switched off, leaving the inside of the boat in complete darkness. Yet, through every hatch, the first light of morning seeps in, gently breaking through the night.

“The storms of life may shake us, but they cannot move the foundation of our faith.”

– Gwennie

In this stillness, my mind drifts to the words of David:

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” (Psalm 20:7)

How often do we place our trust in the things we can see, in the stability of what we can control? The world teaches us to rely on our own strength, our resources, our ability to plan and predict. But here, in the quiet darkness of the boat, I am reminded that these things are not my anchor. The real anchor of my soul is the One who never sleeps, never fails, and never leaves.

I look up at the sky, watching as night surrenders to the coming dawn. It reminds me of another promise from the Psalms:

“I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:1-2)

There are seasons in life when everything around us feels dark, when we feel powerless, unsure of what’s next. But just like the sunrise that faithfully arrives each morning, God’s presence is constant. Even before we see the full light of day, He is there. Even before our prayers are answered in the way we hope, He is moving.

I sit in this moment, breathing in the cool morning air, feeling the gentle sway of the boat beneath me. Though the night lingers inside, the light is already breaking through. And I am anchored—not in my circumstances, not in my own strength, but in the unwavering faithfulness of my God.

True peace is not found in the security of this world, but in the unshakable faithfulness of our God.”

– Gwennie

May we always trust not in what we can see, but in the One who holds the sun, the sea, and our very lives in His hands.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the stillness of the morning and the gentle reminder that You are our true anchor. When darkness surrounds us, help us to lift our eyes to You, knowing that our help comes from the Maker of heaven and earth. Teach us to trust not in our own strength or the things of this world, but in Your unchanging love and faithfulness. As the sun rises each day, may our faith in You rise as well, shining brightly in the midst of uncertainty. Keep us steady, Lord, anchored in Your perfect peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
