Between the Crucifixion and the Resurrection

Good morning everyone, Let’s talk about the Saturday after the crucifixion. It’s a day often overshadowed by the crushing loss of Good Friday and the celebration of Easter Sunday, but it’s worth a moment of our attention.

On that Saturday, things were pretty somber. Jesus had just been crucified the day before, and His followers were in shock and grief. Can you imagine the heaviness in the air? The confusion, the fear, the heartache? For the disciples, it must have felt like their whole world had come crashing down. Their Teacher, their Friend, their hope for the future – gone. They were probably huddled together, wondering what to do next, feeling lost and uncertain.

In the silence of that Saturday, hope hovered on the horizon, waiting to burst forth with the brilliance of Easter morning.

As for the religious leaders and the authorities, they were probably feeling pretty pleased with themselves. They thought they’d silenced this troublemaker once and for all. But little did they know, something incredible was about to happen.

Now, let’s talk about God the Father. Imagine His heartache on that Saturday. His beloved Son, Jesus, had just been tortured and killed. The pain must have been unbearable. But even in the midst of His grief, He had a plan. A plan for resurrection, for redemption, for victory over death.

And what about Jesus Himself? Jesus faced the depths of human anguish and spiritual conflict. Bearing the weight of humanity’s sin and separation from God, He experienced the profound agony of the grave. It might seem like the end of the story, but we know it’s just the beginning. Jesus had willingly laid down His life for us, taking on the weight of our sin and suffering. And He did it all out of love.

So, as we reflect on that Saturday after the crucifixion, let’s remember the depth of sorrow, the flicker of hope, and the promise of what’s to come. It’s a reminder that even in our darkest moments, God is at work, bringing light and life into the world.

Heavenly Father,

As we gather in prayer, we reflect on the solemnity of the day between the crucifixion and the resurrection. In this quiet moment, we bring before You our hearts heavy with the weight of sorrow and anticipation. Lord, we recognize the depth of Your love revealed through the sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus Christ. On this day, as we contemplate the silence of Saturday, we are reminded of the immense price paid for our redemption.

In the midst of our grief and uncertainty, we cling to the hope that lies beyond the darkness. We trust in Your promise of resurrection, knowing that Sunday’s dawn will bring forth new life and everlasting joy. Grant us, O God, the strength to endure this day with patient expectation. May Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

We surrender our fears, our doubts, and our burdens to You, knowing that You are faithful to fulfill Your promises. Help us to trust in Your unfailing love and to hold fast to the hope that anchors our souls. As we wait in hopeful anticipation of the resurrection, may Your presence be our comfort and Your grace our strength. Fill us with Your peace, O Lord, and renew our hearts with the assurance of Your victory over death. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.

Hang in there, friends. Sunday’s coming.
