Many of us mistake God for being inhumane and distant. We think that God cannot relate to our pain, our fears, or our losses. But the fact that Jesus weeps in this piece of the gospel brings context to our human pain and our own suffering.
We are so quick to ask God for an explanation when bad things happen. We even ask “does God even care?” BUT this simple statement, “Jesus wept,” proves that our Father in Heaven cares for us. He loves us with unyielding love. Even though Jesus knew He was about to raise Lazurus from the dead and make right this terrible tragedy. Jesus still “feels” the pain of the people, even today.
Jesus Wept.
John 11:35
In the tears of a loving Jesus, we find the answers to all of our questions. Is Jesus distant? Does Jesus care? Where is Jesus? Why is He so late? and so much more.
But
If we read John 11 we read how Jesus went to Lazarus’s house 4 days after his death. Everyone thought that Jesus was too late, but Jesus knew His timing was perfect and even in His perfect time, Jesus can still have compassion for the family crying at the burial grounds 4 days later.
Dear Lord, thank you that I can know Your perfect timing is always on time. In my moments of tears and pain, remind me my King that You are a Father who weeps over Your people. Strengthen us Father that we can wait upon you.
